Pasantías disponibles para la primavera del 2004 en UFE

Summer 2004 Internships Available at UFE

United for a Fair Economy is a national non-profit organization that spotlights growing economic inequality and inspires action to narrow the growing economic divide.

To apply for any of these internships, fill out an intern application. If you have questions, contact Steve Schnapp at (617) 423-2148 x10 or sschnapp@FairEconomy.org.

Estate Tax Media Assistant

As part of its economic fairness work, United for a Fair Economy is campaigning to prevent the repeal of the federal Estate Tax, the most progressive tax in the US. The Estate Tax is owed only on estates worth more than $1.5 million, so 99% of Americans pay no estate tax. Repealing the Estate Tax would cost almost $1 trillion over the next 20 years, resulting in cuts to important programs such as education, and shifting the tax burden to low- and middle-income taxpayers. The intern will help with media efforts to research, educate and inform the public about the values of preserving and reforming the Estate Tax.

Job Description:
1) Help collect national news items about the Estate Tax; some research and analysis.
2) Update database re: media coverage and events.
3) Assist with events and creative actions.
4) Draft letters to the editor, construct media lists, and/or research media contacts.

2) Assist with sending out press releases.
3) Collect and keep records of UFE media coverage.
4) Conduct research on the web, in print resources, and by phone on the history of policy leading to racial disparities in net worth.
5) Assist with obtaining permissions, checking facts, gathering photos and graphics, and other pre-publication tasks.

Research Assistant

This intern would work with the Research Director on all aspects of UFE research, including researching CEO pay trends, developing materials for UFE workshops on state tax policy and other topics, updating website information on the estate tax and other topics, and answering economics questions from UFE members and trainers. Experience in research on economic topics required.

Job Description:
1) Conduct research on the web, in print resources, and by phone on publication topics.
2) Draft and edit economic updates, training materials and sections of publications.
3) If intern has advanced web skills, research and assist with interactive website features.
